Dean McGee seemed set to run away with the 20-lap IMCA modifieds feature to end the night. The veteran from Galesburg, Illinois, led the first nine laps and had a comfortable lead on Jeff Waterman, Bill Roberts, Jr., and Kurt Kile.
But McGee got tangled up with a lap car in turn three, taking him out of the race and giving the lead to Waterman. Waterman held off challenges from Kile, Roberts and Steve Stewart to take the win.
“It was a little unfortunate for Dean there. The track was really good tonight. It was a little rough in the corners, but you’re going to have that. I think the new word is character,” Waterman said. “I think Dean had it wrapped up until the lapped car incident. He was good. I was watching his lines and I wasn’t gaining on him. His misfortune, I guess. But a win’s a win and I’ll take it.”
